Jangaon: A delegation of the Telangana Rythu Sangham submitted a memorandum to the District Additional Collector Ben Shalom, urging immediate resolution of pressing issues faced by farmers in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, District General Secretary Bhukya Chandu Naik stated that a large number of farmers in the district had cultivated maize, and harvesting has already begun. However, he criticized the government for failing to open maize procurement centers through Markfed so far. He alleged that private traders are purchasing maize at only ₹1,850 per quintal, causing heavy financial losses to farmers. He demanded that the government immediately establish procurement centers in markets across Jangaon district.
He further pointed out that both the Central and State governments had promised to deposit PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and Rythu Bharosa financial assistance into farmers’ bank accounts before local body elections. However, these assurances have not been fulfilled. He demanded that the pending amounts under PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and Rythu Bharosa be credited to farmers’ accounts without further delay.
The leaders also highlighted that the ongoing Yasangi (Rabi) season is facing severe drought conditions, and crops are drying up due to lack of irrigation water. They urged the government to lift waters from the Godavari River through the Devadula Project and fill the reservoirs, tanks, and ponds in Jangaon district to protect standing crops and support farmers.
They warned that if the government fails to take immediate action, large-scale protests would be organized across the district.
The program was attended by District President Raparthi Somaiah, District Vice President Ramavath Meetya Naik, Agricultural Workers’ Union District Assistant Secretary Pothukanuri Upender, Telangana Girijana Sangham District Secretary Ajmeera Suresh Naik, and other leaders.
