London/Hyderabad: The Telangana Rising delegation led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has cancelled its proposed visit to the United States after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) denied permission for the US leg of the official foreign tour.
The Telangana Government had sought approval from the Centre for the Chief Minister’s visits to both the United Kingdom and the United States, following established diplomatic protocol. While the UK visit received clearance, the Centre later informed the State Government that permission for the US visit had been denied, citing political reasons.
Respecting the decision, the Chief Minister chose to return to Hyderabad from London instead of travelling to Boston.
Expressing disappointment over the denial, Revanth Reddy emphasized that the purpose of the US visit was not political but focused on expanding educational and skill-development opportunities for Telangana’s youth.
He said the proposed engagements aimed to bring world-renowned universities and global skill institutions to Telangana under the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP), enabling students to access internationally recognized education and certifications.
“The future of our youth and nation-building should be viewed beyond politics and elections,” the Chief Minister said.
Despite the cancellation of his personal visit, the Chief Minister directed senior officials to proceed with the scheduled meetings in the United States. The delegation will continue discussions on Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and strategic partnership agreements with leading universities and educational institutions.
The State Government said these collaborations remain a priority as part of Telangana’s long-term vision to strengthen higher education, innovation, and workforce development.
Revanth Reddy reiterated his ambition of transforming Hyderabad into one of the world’s premier knowledge and innovation cities. He highlighted the city’s strong academic ecosystem, anchored by institutions such as IIT Hyderabad, ISB, IIIT Hyderabad, and NALSAR University, which has helped attract global corporations, research organizations, and international talent.
According to the Chief Minister, Telangana will continue pursuing partnerships with world-class educational institutions to enhance opportunities for students and position Hyderabad as a leading destination for global learning.
The Chief Minister’s engagements in the United Kingdom will continue as planned. The itinerary includes meetings with prestigious institutions including:
University of Oxford
University of Cambridge
London School of Economics (LSE)
London Business School (LBS)
The discussions will focus on collaborations in education, skill development, research, innovation, and sports.
