Customs Intelligence Seizes Smuggled Cigarettes Worth Rs. 303 Million in Recent Operations

Under the guidance of Chairman FBR, Mr. Asim Ahmad, and the direct supervision of the Director General Customs Intelligence, Mr. Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, Customs Intelligence has achieved significant success in combating the smuggling of cigarettes across the country. In the past ten days, their operations have resulted in the seizure of smuggled cigarettes valued at Rs. 303 million.

The largest haul was made in Balochistan, where Customs Intelligence seized a whopping 4,280,000 sticks of foreign brand cigarettes, estimated to be worth Rs. 114.2 million. In Sindh, eight successful operations led to the confiscation of 1,420,700 sticks of high-end branded cigarettes valued at Rs. 69.7 million. Meanwhile, in Punjab, the Customs Intelligence team seized 1,294,000 sticks of smuggled cigarettes, amounting to Rs. 75.3 million. Similarly, in KP, 1,155,000 sticks of smuggled cigarettes with a value of Rs. 43.9 million were intercepted.

Over the course of the past ten days, Customs Intelligence has confiscated a total of 8,149,700 sticks of smuggled cigarettes, amounting to Rs. 303 million. This brings the overall count of cigarette seizures by Customs Intelligence in the current fiscal year 2022-23 to 33,994,850 sticks, valued at Rs. 1,324 million.

The Chairman FBR, Mr. Asim Ahmad, and Director General Customs Intelligence, Mr. Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, expressed their appreciation for the diligent efforts of Customs Intelligence teams in Quetta, Karachi, Multan, Gwadar, Hyderabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Despite limited human resources and logistical challenges, Customs Intelligence has remained committed to tackling the menace of smuggling, particularly in the case of illicit cigarettes.

The authorities recognized the significance of these seizures and highlighted Customs Intelligence's persistent endeavors to combat smuggling activities. They emphasized the importance of curbing the illegal trade of cigarettes and expressed their determination to continue the fight against smuggling in all its forms.
