Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi State President and former MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has demanded that the issues faced by seed cotton farmers in Jogulamba Gadwal district be resolved immediately. She stated that it is unjust that payments have not yet been made for seed cotton that recorded more than 80 percent GOT (Genetically Outturn Test) results in the previous crop season.
On Friday, under the leadership of Nadigadda Hakkula Porata Samithi District Chairman Gongalla Ranjith Kumar, a delegation of farmers met Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy in Hyderabad and submitted a memorandum highlighting their concerns.
Assurances Must Be Implemented
Referring to the recent farmers’ protest meeting held in Jogulamba Gadwal district, Kavitha recalled that during a previous meeting conducted under the supervision of the District Collector, seed companies and organizers had assured that payments would be made for seed cotton achieving over 80 percent GOT results. However, she pointed out that these assurances have not been implemented so far.
Prices Must Reflect Rising Input Costs
In view of the increased costs of fertilizers, labor, and cultivation expenses, she demanded that the price per seed cotton packet be revised accordingly. She also called for the immediate clearance of pending payments to farmers and insisted that companies must enter into proper tripartite agreements with farmers to ensure transparency and accountability.
After discussing these issues, the Farmers Commission reportedly responded positively, according to Gongalla Ranjith Kumar. He added that steps would be taken to organize a special meeting in Gadwal soon to address the farmers’ grievances.
Farmers’ associations have urged the government to take swift action to safeguard the dignity and livelihood of seed cotton farmers.
