With the start of the new financial year on April 1, several important changes in ATM transaction rules have come into effect across the country. These updates are expected to directly impact bank customers.
Earlier, only cash withdrawals made using ATM cards were counted under free transaction limits. However, as per the latest changes, cash withdrawals from ATMs using UPI will also be included in the free transaction limit. This means that even UPI-based ATM withdrawals will now be counted as part of your monthly free transactions.
Currently, banks allow up to 5 free ATM transactions per month in metro cities, while in non-metro areas, customers can avail between 3 to 5 free transactions. Once this limit is exceeded, a charge of up to ₹23 per transaction will be applied.
In addition, some banks have reportedly reduced the daily cash withdrawal limits, making it necessary for customers to plan their transactions more carefully.
