JMI organizes General Dental Check-up Camp for Special Olympics Bharat Athletes

New Delhi, May 30: The Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has organized a special dental check-up camp for athletes and coaches of Special Olympic Bharat, a recognized National Sports Federation, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, which works for the development of sports and other life skills of children and adults with Intellectual disabilities through Sports on 25th May 2023.

JMI organizes General Dental Check-up Camp for Special Olympics Bharat Athletes

These athletes were from various sports disciplines and will be representing India at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023 in Berlin, Germany.
This event was aimed to provide comprehensive dental care and promote oral health awareness among the athletes. A team of dedicated dental professionals (Dr. Panchali Batra, Dr. Aditi Verma, Dr. Sanjay Miglani, Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Dr. Madhuri, Dr. Syed Ansar) organized this event with their expertise to ensure that the athletes received the necessary dental care and education.
Prof. Keya Sircar, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, JMI welcomed the athletes along with their guardian and coaches. Prior to the check-ups, Prof. Keya shared her valuable thoughts on the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene. This brief education session aimed to empower the athletes with knowledge and promote positive oral health habits followed by the best wishes for the World Summer Games 2023.
The event began with a thorough dental examination of each athlete. The Dental Faculty along with dental interns assessed the athletes & oral health, including the teeth, gums, tongue, and oral tissues and further necessary treatment was provided.
A total of 22 Special Olympics Bharat team (20 Athletes and 4 coaches) benefited from the camp. The athletes received an essential oral health care kit and their awareness about maintaining good dental hygiene was significantly enhanced. The event not only addressed immediate dental needs but also laid the foundation for long-term oral health among the athletes.
This dental check-up event serves as a reminder of the importance of oral health care for individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting inclusivity and ensuring that they receive the necessary dental attention they deserve.
