International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam Aims for World Record

Visakhapatnam, India - Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to create a historic world record with its 'Yogaandhra' program, scheduled to coincide with International Yoga Day on June 21st. The ambitious event aims to bring together 500,000 people to perform yoga, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend.

State Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, held a high-level review meeting with officials to oversee the preparations. He emphasized that the world is watching Visakhapatnam for this extraordinary event and urged officials to work with dedication and commitment to ensure its success.

Extensive Preparations Underway

The yoga demonstration will stretch for 26 kilometers, from RK Beach to Bheemili, across 247 compartments. Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive at the main venue near the Kali Mata Temple on RK Beach at 6:30 AM. Lokesh instructed officials to ensure that participants reach their designated compartments an hour before the Prime Minister's arrival by providing efficient transportation.

"Don't make people walk more than 600 meters from their vehicles," Lokesh stressed. "From transporting them from their homes to the venue and back safely, it's the officials' responsibility. June 19, 20, and 21 are crucial. All officials must work systematically and collectively to make the event a success." Before the meeting, the Minister inspected the ongoing yoga training at the AU Grounds.

Detailed Arrangements for Public Comfort and Safety

MT Krishnababu, the state-level nodal officer, provided details on the meticulous arrangements for the 11th International Yoga Day. He stated that a gazetted officer has been assigned to each compartment, and registered participants will be allowed entry using QR codes. Those coming from distant areas will be permitted to enter starting from 2 AM.

To manage vehicle traffic, a command control room has been set up with 1200 cameras. Preparations have been made at 30 main locations and 18 additional locations between RK Beach and Bheemili.

Krishnababu added that 2,000 yoga instructors have been assigned responsibilities for the program and will be brought to the AU Grounds the night before. As a precautionary measure, 116 ambulances and 1400 bio-toilets will be available. Mats and T-shirts will be provided to all attendees at their respective compartments.

For transportation, 3,500 RTC buses and 8,000 private and school buses have been arranged for people coming from Visakhapatnam and neighboring districts. Secretariat employees have been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the safe transport of citizens.

The review meeting was attended by Union Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, District In-charge Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, State Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Anagani Satyaprasad, Gummadi Sandhyarani, District Collector Dr. A. Hareendhra Prasad, and other state and district-level officials and public representatives.
