SFI Condemns Alleged Lynching in Indas, Bankura; Demands Justice for Md. Mafik

SFI West Bengal Leadership Visits Hospital and Family of Victim

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) West Bengal leadership visited a hospital and the residence of Md. Mafik, a civilian from Indas in Bankura district, following reports that he was allegedly beaten to death by individuals associated with BJP.

According to the allegations, the incident was linked to the participation of Mafik’s son, Abdul Hafeez, in the “Cockroach” protest, which was organised with demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The circumstances surrounding the death have triggered serious concern among student and civil rights groups.

SFI strongly condemned what it described as a brutal act of violence and alleged that communal and political forces were attempting to intimidate those who raise their voices in protest.

During their visit, SFI leaders met the family and visited the hospital to express solidarity with those affected by the incident. The organisation called for a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation and demanded that all those responsible for the alleged violence be brought to justice.

SFI Calls for Protection of Democratic Rights

SFI said that participation in a democratic protest should never become a reason for political violence or attacks on individuals and their families. The organisation emphasised that students and citizens must have the freedom to express their opinions and participate in peaceful democratic movements without fear.

SFI also urged the authorities to ensure the safety of Abdul Hafeez and other members of the family and to prevent any further intimidation or violence.

The organisation reiterated its opposition to what it termed communal politics and violence, and called upon democratic and progressive sections of society to stand together against attacks on civil liberties.

Demand for Justice

SFI demanded that the authorities establish the facts surrounding Md. Mafik’s death through a transparent investigation, ensure accountability for those found responsible, and provide justice to the bereaved family.

SFI West Bengal stated that it would continue to stand with the family and oppose attempts to suppress democratic dissent through violence or intimidation.
