Hyderabad: May 19
Virat Kohli bursts with a century after four years in IPL. With the aggressiveness of Duplessis along with Kohli, RCB smashed the huge target and took the lead in the playoffs race.
In the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had a record of losing eight of the previous seven matches played at the Uppal venue, dominated Hyderabad this time. It won the match which must be won to stay in the playoffs race and jumped to the fourth place in the points table. Sunrisers achieved the set target of 187 runs in 19.2 overs losing only 2 wickets. RCB openers Virat Kohli (100 off 63 balls, 12 fours, 4 sixes) and Faf Duplessis (71 off 47 balls, 7 fours, 2 sixes) toyed with the Sunrisers bowlers. These two put on a record partnership of 172 runs for the first wicket together in 17.5 overs.
With this win, Royal Challengers Bangalore have scored 14 points in the points table and are equal with Mumbai, but due to better net run rate, Rohit Sena has been pushed to the fifth position. In order for Mumbai Indians to reach the playoffs, they have to win the next match against Hyderabad and lose against RCB and Gujarat by a huge margin.
Kohli - Duplessis show..
As far as the Hyderabad-Bangalore match is concerned, RCB's momentum did not drop anywhere until they won from the 1st ball in chasing down the target of 187 runs. Kohli, who hit two boundaries in the first over bowled by Bhuvneshwar, then repeated the same scene in the bowling of Abhishek Sharma. Duplessis hit a hat-trick of fours in the Nagulo over bowled by Karthik Tyagi. After Bhuvi hit 6.4 in the fifth over, RCB's score reached 60 runs in five overs.
As Kohli - Duplessis didn't decrease at all, RCB's score jumped without brakes. At the end of 10 overs, the openers scored 95 runs without losing a wicket and completed their half century in the 12th over bowled by Glenn Phillips. In this over, Duplessis scored two runs off the first ball and completed his half-century in 34 balls, while Kohli hit four in the third ball and completed his half-century in 35 balls.
King Sixth Century..
Kohli and Duplessis who kept going even after the half-centuries did not give any chance to the Sunrisers bowlers. In the 15th over bowled by Bhuvi, Kohli hit 4 boundaries and reached the 80s. Natarajan was the chase master who reached 90 with a six in the 17th over. Bhuvneshwar completed his century with a six off the fourth ball of the 18th over. This is Kohli's sixth century in IPL. Thus he equaled Chris Gayle's record of six centuries in IPL. This is Kohli's first hundred in IPL after 2019. Even with Kohli's exit, RCB's victory was already sealed. Even though Natarajan dismissed Duplessis, Maxwell (5 not out) and Braswell (4 not out) did the rest.
Sunrisers, who batted first in this match earlier, made a huge score of 186 runs in 20 overs as Heinrich Klaasen (104) burst with a century. But his hard work was wasted by the Hyderabad bowlers.
