AP Assembly: Strengthening Anganwadis is the Government’s Primary Goal

Minister Gummidi Sandhyarani

Amaravati,
Strengthening the Anganwadi system and improving women and child welfare is the primary objective of the state government, said Andhra Pradesh Minister for Women and Child Welfare Gummidi Sandhyarani while addressing the Assembly.

She stated that the Women and Child Welfare Department in Andhra Pradesh is setting new benchmarks at the national level. In the centrally sponsored Poshan Abhiyaan, Andhra Pradesh secured the first position in the country. The Minister credited this achievement to the dedicated efforts of Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state.

A total of 76 Gram Panchayats from 20 districts in the state have been selected for national-level awards. Among them, East Godavari district received the highest number of awards with 11 Panchayats, while NTR and Tirupati districts received one award each. The Minister announced that each selected Panchayat will receive a cash award of ₹1 lakh.

She explained that clear guidelines have been issued for the utilization of these funds. Out of the ₹1 lakh grant, ₹50,000 will be allocated for Anganwadi nutrition programs, ₹25,000 for Anganwadi helpers, and ₹25,000 for community organization activities.

The Minister further highlighted the significant improvement in attendance at Anganwadi centers. Earlier, attendance stood at around 70 percent, but due to the present government’s focused initiatives, it has now increased to 96 percent. She noted that improved nutrition supply, regular health check-ups, and awareness programs for mothers have contributed to this remarkable progress.

The government remains committed to making the Anganwadi system more transparent, efficient, and technology-driven, she added, stating that Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a model state in women and child welfare and nutrition.
