Suryapet Congress holds review meeting on second phase of voter verification campaign
The Congress party hasaccused the Election Commission of acting as the “B-team” of the BJP-led Central Government and conspiring to delete voters’ names from electoral rolls. Party leaders urged every Congress worker to actively participate in the ongoing voter verification process to ensure that not a single eligible vote is lost.
The remarks were made during a review meeting on the second phase of the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) programme held on Thursday at the District Congress Party office, Red House, Suryapet.
The meeting was addressed by Government Whip and MLC Balamuri Venkat, Suryapet Parliament In-charge, AICC member Ram Reddy Sarvotham Reddy, former Corporation Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, DCC President Gudipati Narasayya, PCC General Secretary and SIR Constituency Coordinator Chakilam Rajeswara Rao, and Suryapet Assembly Coordinator Kusuba Srinivas.
“Every Vote Must Be Protected”
Addressing party leaders and workers, Balamuri Venkat said the Congress has successfully prevented the deletion of thousands of votes during the past month by actively monitoring the SIR process. He called upon party workers to intensify their efforts over the next 15 days to protect every eligible voter.
He alleged that attempts were being made to remove voters from electoral rolls for political reasons and stressed that safeguarding voting rights is a democratic responsibility.
Voter Statistics in Suryapet
According to the leaders, the Suryapet Assembly constituency has approximately 2.46 lakh registered voters. Of these, around 26,000 cases relate to deceased voters or individuals who have not submitted the required forms.
They stated that nearly 2.20 lakh valid voters remain, while an additional 47,000 names appear in the draft electoral list and require verification.
Which Forms Should Voters Use?
Congress leaders explained the importance of the voter registration forms and appealed to citizens to complete the appropriate applications:
- Form 6: For new voters who have completed 18 years of age.
- Form 7: To verify and protect the name of an eligible voter included in the draft list.
- Form 8: To correct spelling mistakes, personal details, or other discrepancies in voter records.
They urged voters not to ignore the verification process and to ensure their names remain on the final electoral roll.
Allegations Against the BJP
The Congress leaders alleged that the BJP government is attempting to delete votes in Telangana using 13 different grounds, claiming that similar practices were witnessed earlier in West Bengal.
They warned that if voters fail to submit the required applications now, the revised electoral roll could remain in force for several years, potentially affecting future elections.
