Thrissur, Kerala:
Actor and activist Prakash Raj said India’s young generation represents the country’s greatest hope for the future, emphasizing the growing willingness of young people to question authority, raise their voices and participate in democratic struggles.

Prakash Raj made the remarks while inaugurating the delegate session of the DYFI 16th State Conference at Pushpan Nagar in the Thrissur Regional Theatre, Kerala.

‘Young People Are Listening and Questioning’

“Young people are listening. They are questioning everything. That is where our hope lies,” he said.

He said the growing political and social awareness among the youth was a positive sign and expressed confidence that their participation would influence the country's future.

Prakash Raj Recalls DYFI Conference in Kolkata

Prakash Raj, who has been associated with the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), recalled that he had inaugurated the organisation's conference in Kolkata in 2018.

Reflecting on his return to a DYFI conference, he said he felt even more confident and hopeful about the younger generation.

His remarks focused on the importance of youth participation, questioning and peaceful democratic action in addressing social and political issues.

Jantar Mantar Protests Showed Youth Power

Recalling the protests at Jantar Mantar, Prakash Raj said the resistance displayed by young people had inspired many others to speak out.

“Young people are not afraid of these predators,” he said.

He described student protests as particularly powerful because young people are willing to challenge established systems and demand answers.

According to Prakash Raj, the large participation of students at Jantar Mantar demonstrated the strength of collective peaceful protest.

“When lakhs of students gathered at Jantar Mantar, Parliament was shaken. They protested peacefully, but the authorities attacked them,” he said.

Social Media as a Weapon in the Youth’s Hands

Prakash Raj also spoke about the changing nature of political communication and activism in the digital era. He argued that social media has become an important tool for young people to communicate, organise and share their views.

“The end of fascism is not far away. They may have guns, but today’s weapon is social media, and it is in the hands of young people. This struggle will not end,” he said.

His comments highlighted the increasing influence of digital platforms in shaping public discussions and mobilising younger generations.

DYFI 16th State Conference Underway in Thrissur

The delegate session of the DYFI 16th State Conference is being held at Pushpan Nagar in the Thrissur Regional Theatre.

Around 590 delegates, representing the organisation's reported 5,193,881 members, are participating in the conference.

DYFI All India President A. A. Rahim, Secretary Himaghna Raj Bhattacharya, Treasurer Sajeev Kumar, along with delegates from different states, are also attending the conference.

The conference is expected to discuss issues concerning young people, employment, education, social justice and the wider challenges facing the youth in India.

Youth and the Future of India

Prakash Raj's address placed the role of India's youth at the centre of the discussion, stressing that questioning, participation and collective action are essential for a vibrant democracy.

The DYFI conference brings together youth representatives from across the country and provides a platform for discussions on the concerns and aspirations of India's younger generation.
