Telangana's groundbreaking irrigation project, an engineering marvel KaleshwaramProject, wins accolades at the prestigious Civil Engineers' Congress.
Maria C Lehman, President, ASCE presented the proclamation to Minister KTR before the Minister delivered the keynote address at the Congress.
The Minister spoke on the theme "Many Benefits and Social Equity from Lifting a River: Story of the World’s Largest Multi-stage Lift Irrigation Project". Minister KTR showcased the Kaleshwaram and Mission Bhagiratha Projects to the 1000+ delegates from across the world.
In his keynote address, Minister KTR explained how Telangana, once an arid region in severe distress due to lack of irrigation water, insufficient drinking water, rampant migration, and farmer suicides - has been transformed under the visionary leadership of CM K Chandrashekar Rao. “CM KCR has fought an uphill battle and transformed the fate of Telangana”.
The Minister said that with strategic planning, innovative thinking, and meticulous execution, CM KCR has translated his vision into tangible results and underscored the milestones achieved by the state on various counts across sectors. “Driven by a relentless passion for development, CM KCR embarked on a mission to solve Telangana's decades-old water problem,” the Minister added.
During his speech, the Minister stated that the Telangana Government has completed the KaleshwaramProject and Mission Bhagiratha in a record time.
“These remarkable projects were not only completed in record time but also with utmost efficiency and cost-effectiveness. They played a crucial role in addressing water scarcity issues in Telangana,” KTR said.
"The colossal engineering wonder, Kaleshwaram Project, which was completed in just four years, lifts river water from an elevation of 90 meters above sea level to an astonishing 618 meters above sea level," Minister KTR informed to the thunderous response of the delegates.
To elucidate the magnitude of the project to the audience, the Minister said, “the amount of earth moved during its construction would fill 101 Pyramids of Giza. The steel used in the project would be enough to build 66 Eiffel Towers, and the concrete poured would erect 53 Burj Khalifas.”
The Minister has added that planned investments in new irrigation projects and revitalization of existing systems contributed to the expansion of cultivated land and have led to the ushering of five revolutions in agriculture and allied sectors i.e. 2nd Green Revolution, Blue Revolution, White Revolution, Pink Revolution, and Yellow Revolution.
“The KaleshwaramProject has transformed Telangana into the new rice bowl of India, irrigating lakhs of acres with two cropping cycles. The gross irrigated land has increased by an impressive 119%, and paddy production has multiplied fourfold, from 3 million tons in 2015-16 to 15 million tons in 2022-23," Minister KTR stated.
Giving due credit to the contribution of the workforce, including engineers, involved in the successful completion of Kaleshwaram Project and MissionBhagiratha, Minister KTR said, "the remarkable success of these two prestigious projects in Telangana is a testament to the hard work and dedication of an exceptional workforce. People from different states in India came together, contributing their skills and expertise to make these projects a reality. 
"Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19, individuals worked tirelessly, demonstrating unwavering commitment and resilience. Engineers and other experts played a crucial role in the planning, design, and execution of these projects, showcasing their technical prowess and innovation," the Minister remarked.
“In the presence of the esteemed American Society of Civil Engineers, let me proudly say that the story of Telangana is an inspiration to us all, demonstrating the power of innovation, perseverance, and engineering excellence in transforming lives,”said KTR
The Minister stated that KaleshwaramProject is a testament to a leader's relentless pursuit and unwavering commitment. “CM Sri KCR, by lifting a river against all odds, has uplifted millions of lives and livelihoods in Telangana.”
“As the river flows with renewed vigor, may the spirit of the Kaleshwaram Project continue to inspire us to defy limits and create a future where no challenge is too great, and no dream is out of reach.” Minister KTR concluded the keynote address.
